Everything You Need to Know About the Marsden Family Program
What can I expect when my child is referred for Counselling Intervention?
When your child is referred to Marsden Families Program’s Counselling Intervention Service, you may expect:
Intake Meeting: Your child’s Therapist will contact you, the caregiver, to set up a meeting time to discuss how we can best support your child and family.
Weekly Sessions: Therapist will meet with the child (and/or caregiver) once a week either at Marsden Families Program or outreach where possible.
Additional Support: Caregiver support, meetings with stakeholders, referrals, and recommendations.
What can I expect when I am referred for Tertiary Family Intervention Services Support (TFIS)?
If your family is referred to Marsden Families Program’s Tertiary Family Intervention Service, you may expect:
You and your Family Support Practitioner will develop a Family Support Plan together and identify goals to work towards, based on your Case Plan.
We will meet with you each week to work on your goals and talk with you regularly about how things are progressing and decide together about any changes that need to happen.
When everyone agrees our work together is completed, we will discuss linking your family in with other community supports, if needed.
How is a referral to TFIS and CIS made?
Marsden Families Program accept referrals from Caboolture, Redcliffe, Morayfield & Strathpine Child Safety Service Centres
Child Safety Officers complete the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety TFIS referral form and email the referral form to: [email protected]

What is the Marsden Families Program?
For over 20 years, Marsden Families Program, auspiced by the Frederick Marsden Youth Centre, has been providing outreach therapeutic support to children and their families involved with the child protection system within the Moreton Bay region. Based at Kallangur, Marsden Families Program is funded by the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety to provide Tertiary Family Intervention Services and Counselling Intervention Services in the Moreton Region.
What services do you offer?
Marsden Families Program’s Tertiary Family Intervention Service offers:
Intensive in-home support to assist families to work towards Case Plan goals set by Department of Child Safety.
Practical support to address specific needs of the family.
Integrative and responsive therapeutic services such as casework, counselling, emotional support and development of social support networks.
Personal support and development including information and advice, parenting skills courses, and budgeting.
Links to other family supports via referral and advocacy – housing, childcare, emergency relief, rental assistance.
Marsden Families Program’s Counselling Intervention Service offers:
Specialist counselling for children and young people, aged 3 years to 18 years who are subject to child protection intervention.
Therapeutic support to reduce emotional distress, improve relationships, learn new skills in coping with the challenges of daily life and improve problem solving skills and overall wellbeing.
Holistic counselling support in collaboration with the child’s caregiver and other members of the child’s support network
Practical support, ideas and advice to caregivers to enhance the child’s general emotional wellbeing and the child’s relationship with the caregiver.
Confidential counselling in a safe space, either at Marsden Families Program Therapy Rooms or outreach within schools or community.
Is there a cost to access the programs?
There is no cost to children, young people and families referred by the Department of Child Safety.
